TEXASAfter our wonderful 16 hour drive from New Mexico, we pulled into the house in The Woodlands at 3am! Absolutely thrilled to see real beds, we passed out as fast as possible. The next day, Dad and John came with us to show Juli and Jason what a real Texan Bar-B-Q tastes like. The fact that it was our first non-PB&J meal in a few days made it that much better, too. Jason and Juli seemed shocked when they got a good look at The Woodlands. Apparently they had expected dessert and tumbleweeds, so all the trees threw them off a bit. After lunch and a nice discussion with Dad about the worsening fate of the price of oil, it was time to head off to New Orleans. This was a much easier drive, so we didn't leave Texas until 4pm, and got into New Orleans at 11pm.

It was Juli and Jason's first time to go to New Orleans, so we had to hit up all of the hot spots to make sure they got the whole experience. I think any New Orleans trip can be summed up with a few simple, main themes:

This is towards the end of lunch. That pile of fried seafood had been about a foot taller before we got to it. I look completely exhausted from all the eating.
Alas, we did not rest from the eating long. Here we are entering Cafe Du Monde!
Apart from going to the French Quarter, we also got to look at some of the areas that are still affected by Katrina. It was amazing to see how many houses are still boarded up. We passed by one area called Tent City, where over 100 homeless people still live in tents underneath a large piece of raised freeway. Nicky is apparently thrilled to have now graduated and never plans to go back. Fun city to visit though!We stayed in New Orleans a total of two nights. We left in the early afternoon on Tuesday with our destination of Chattanooga...our final stop before Bonnaroo!
